American
Weight: Maximum 9-12 lbs

Colors: Blue and REW are the only colors recognized by the ARBA, but Black is also a common mutation.
Personality/Temperament: Owners usually describe them as sweet and docile.
Defining Characteristic: Dense, silky hair that is entirely pigmented in colors other than REW
The American rabbit breed has been through several name changes. It was originally known as German Blue Vienna Rabbits. Shortly after Word War I, it was changed to American blue and then simply American after REW was added to the recognized colors. Though American rabbits were bred primarily for commercial use at first, they are now known to make great pets as well. They are low maintenance and hardy, characteristics their owners greatly appreciate. Unfortunately, they are a very rare breed.

Body Shape: Commercial
Colors: Chinchilla
Personality/Temperament: Gentle, curious, and docile, American Chinchillas are great pets.

American Fuzzy Lop
Weight: 3-4 lbs

Personality/Temperament: Fuzzy lop owners often describe their bunnies as curious, interactive, and social.
Defining Characteristic: A beautiful wooly coat that requires a little bit of extra attention in the grooming department.
American Fuzzy Lops originated as a byproduct of holland lop breeding. When French Angoras were bred with broken holland lops, the fuzzy gene resulted in some rabbits having both the wooly coat of Angoras as well as the small stature and lopped ears of Holland lops. Those that liked this appearance began to work on them as their own breed until they were eventually accepted by the ARBA. Today, fuzzy lops are adored by breeders and pet owners alike.
Thanks @bunnydairieswithmuffinanddollie for providing pictures of their beautiful American fuzzy!
American Sable
“They are a very friendly breed and make excellent pets. They show so much affection and love for their owners especially when they’ve bonded to you. They’re happy a lot of the time and love when you play with them and give them a lot of toys. They are super energetic and love to run around and explore. They love gentle pets on their back and between their ears. ”
Weight: 7-10 lbs
Body Shape: Commercial
Colors: Sable, Siamese Sable
Personality/Temperament: American Sables are known for being sociable, friendly, and relaxed. They love toys and make great pets.
Defining Characteristic: Their dense, beautiful coat (that may require extra grooming) with coloring similar to a Siamese cat.
American Sables originated from litters of American Chinchillas containing sable colored rabbits. Their unique coloring interested breeders, and they were soon recognized as a separate breed. Throughout their history, they have fluctuated in popularity. At their lowest point, they had nearly reached extinction. Luckily, a breeder named All Roerdanz located several rabbits and brought them back into the rabbit show world. They are now a well known breed that continues to increase in population.
Thanks @khalessybunny for providing pictures of this beautiful breed!

An older French breed, Argente Bruns were bred in Europe for their unique coat coloring. They eventually were brought to Canada and the US. Thank you to @pettibone_urban_game_ for providing pictures!
Belgian Hare
Weight: 6-9.5 lbs
“So Hector, my Belgian hare, is super confident and friendly. He jumps on my lap, follows me round the garden, goes up to the dogs without being afraid of them and loves being stroked. He comes when he’s called particularly for food. He’s less comfortable being picked up though.”
Body Shape: Full Arch
Colors: Chestnut red is the only color recognized by the ARBA, but tan, black, and REW are also available
Personality/Temperament: As you might assume from their physical appearance, Belgian hares are one of the most energetic and excitable of all the rabbit breeds. They need plenty of room to run and jump, and startle easily. Due to skittish nervous nature they are primarily used for breeding and show, but dedicated pet owners love their hares.
Defining Characteristic: Their rich coloring, large size, and full arch.
Belgian hares were originally bred in England for commercial purposes. Despite their name, they are rabbits, not hares. Soon after their importation to America, they gained popularity as show rabbits and sparked the creation of the ARBA. Because of their unique shape and temperament, they are not recommended for beginner rabbit owners. They are fairly fragile and difficult to handle. Loud noises can scare them easily and cause injuries, so precautions must be taken.
Thanks @fiver_rey and @yorkinmanc for providing pictures of their beautiful American fuzzy!
Beveren
Weight: 8-12 lbs
Body Shape: Semi-arch
Colors: Black, Blue, and BEW are the only colors accepted by the ARBA, but others are available.
Personality/Temperament: Like many breeds of their size, Beverens are usually energetic and playful with a laid back nature.
Defining Characteristic: Dense, glossy fur that is rich in color.
Beverens were originally bred for commercial use, but were later recognized as great show and pet rabbits. They are fairly large, and require a large amount of room for adequate exercise. Due to the density of their beautiful fur coats, they also need to be groomed regularly during their molts.
Thanks @desertember for providing pictures!
Blanc de Hotot
“Hotots are very stuffy. Sugar has what I call a rabbitude. I come home from college and if I don't say hi to him right away, he goes into his litterbox and throws all the litter out, piece by piece, with his mouth.
He loves cuddles and attention. And if you pay attention to anyone else but him in front of him, he makes a ruckus. He gives LOTS of kisses, which isn't unique to hotots, but definitely prevalent. He's very, very, very needy for love and attention If you're sitting on the floor, he will nudge you and even nip a bit to get your attention.“ - @sugar.poofer.bun
Weight: 8-10 lbs
Body Shape: Commercial
Colors: Hotots come in one distinct color, white with black rings around their eyes
Personality/Temperament: Hotots are often spunky, energetic, and playful.

This unique breed gets its name from the city it originated from, Hotot-en-Auge, Normandy. It was created through the breeding of a White Flemish Giant, White Vienna, and Checkered Giant. Careful breeding isolated the black markings to around the eyes, causing an adorable eyeliner look. They do not require any special care beyond the normal requirements for rabbits of their size, and make great pets.
Thank you to @sarahmacmath and @luna_tequila_ for providing photos of their Hotots!
Britannia Petite
Weight: 2-2.5 lbs
Body Shape: Full arch
Colors: Black, black otter, chestnut agouti, sable marten, and REW are the only colors recognized by the ARBA

Shiny furred rabbits bred from a variety of breeds, Britannia Petites are active, sometimes high-strung rabbits. They are not the cuddliest breed, but are great for owners willing provide their bunny with enrichment they can make great pets. They love to run and adore exploring bunny proof areas. They are fragile rabbits, and prefer to be handled as little as possible.
Thanks to @mara_und_nins and @rabbits_shetlandpony for providing pictures of their incredible rabbits!

One of the oldest breeds in existence, Dutch rabbits were originally bred for commercial use. Since then, they have been imported across the globe and gained popularity among pet owners. They are said to be one of the friendliest breeds available, making them a great choice for first time owners or families with well behaved children. Due to their curious nature, they need to be provided with adequate enrichment.
Thank you to Karoline Rosenqvist from @vincentdutchbunny, @mybunnylexi, @nutbun_trio, and @a_rabbit_named_jenkins for providing pictures of their Dutch!

Body Shape: Compact
Colors: White with black ring around eye
Personality/Temperament: Relaxed, sometimes independent rabbits that love to lounge on the couch or around the house.
Defining Characteristic: Their small size and black eye rings.
Similar to the larger Blanc de Hotots, Dwarf Hotots were created through the breeding of Netherland dwarfs with their larger counterpart. This introduced the dwarf gene, resulting in pint sized rabbits with the same adorable markings. They became popular show rabbits, and were introduced to the pet industry shortly thereafter. Despite earlier rabbits of their breed having a slight nipping problem, today’s Dwarf Hotots make great, friendly pets.
Thanks to @mlabuns, @teysazura, and @bunnywearsprada for providing pictures of their cute little Hotots!
English Angora
Weight: 5-7.5 lbs
Body Shape: Compact
Colors: A variety, including agouti, shaded, self, and pointed colors.
Personality/Temperament: Curious, relaxed, and friendly.
Defining Characteristic: Lush, long fir that covers even their face.
English Angoras originated in Turkey and were imported across the world for their coveted fur. They are relaxed rabbits with a slightly dog like appearance. Their endearing look makes them a popular choice for pet owners, but it does not come without a price. Many Angoras require at least an hour of grooming weekly. For those that would prefer to spend a little less time combing their bunny, their fur can be trimmed and used for yarn.
Thanks to @bonjovibunny and @luna_angorarabbit for providing pictures of their beautiful Angoras!
English Lop
Weight: 9-11 lbs
Body Shape: Semi-arch
Colors: A variety of colors in both solid and broken
Personality/Temperament: Playful and curious with a laid back nature.
Defining Characteristic: Long, velvety ears.
Not much is known about where English Lops were first bred. Many believe they originated from Africa, with the boiling heat accounting for the growth of their long ears. They were popular show rabbits in several countries because of their distinct appearance, and pet owners would later become just as enthralled. Because of the length of their ears, they do require a bit of extra care. English lop owners must always make sure their bunny’s nails are trimmed in case they step on them, and should occasionally check their ears to make sure they are clean.
Thanks to @bunnywiththebigears for providing pictures of their English Lop, Totoro!
English Spot
Weight: 5-8 lbs
Body Shape: Full arch
Colors: Black, Chocolate, Gray, Blue, Gold, Lilac and Tortoise
Personality/Temperament: Gentle, friendly rabbits with a spunky side.
Defining Characteristic: Dark dorsal stripe and spotting pattern.
Known for being one of the oldest breeds, English spots were originally bred as show rabbits. Years after their importation to other countries, they were introduced to pet owners. They make wonderful pets, and are a great balance of outgoing and laid back that their owners love. They are medium sized rabbits that should be given adequate room to run and jump for optimal health.
Thanks to @milly.and.maisy for providing pictures!

Colors: REW, Black, Blue, Fawn, Light Gray, Sandy, and Steel Gray are the only colors recognized by the ARBA, but other colors are available.
Personality/Temperament: Low maintenance, sweet, and interactive.
Defining Characteristic: Massive size!
Though little is known about their origin, Flemish Giants are thought to be one of the oldest breeds in existence. They were first recorded in Flanders, Belgium. Since then, they have been imported to many countries and gained a reputation for being “Gentle giants”. Their large size made them a popular choice for commercial use, but pet owners quickly realized their potential as well. Most of them are larger than many teacup dog breeds, and make wonderful house pets.
Thank you to @sarafina.thebelgiangiant and @junior_giant for providing pictures!
Florida White
Weight: 4-6 lbs
Body Shape: Compact
Colors: REW
Personality/Temperament: Gentle, relaxed, and interactive.
Defining Characteristic: Pure white coat and red eyes.
This “all-purpose” breed was created in Florida through the crossing of dutch, polish, and New Zealand rabbits. They were originally used mainly for commercial purposes, but their docile personalities make them a great choice for pet owners. They are pure white with characteristics similar to New Zealand rabbits, but are much smaller in size.
Thank you to @ballston_buns for providing pictures of their Florida White!
French Angora
Weight: 7.5-10.5 lbs
Body Shape: Commercial
Colors: A variety colors in nearly all categories.
Personality/Temperament: Docile, friendly, and relaxed.
Defining Characteristic: Large size and long, soft fur.
One of the oldest breeds, French Angoras were first bred in Turkey and then imported across the world. They were popular with commercial breeders, but their long fur and sweet personalities attracted the attention of pet owners. As with all Angoras, owners must take extra care to ensure their bunnies don’t get wool block and groom their bunnies regularly.
Thank you to @puff.parsons and @hazel_the_bunny__
French Lop
“Incredibly sweet, more like a dog than a rabbit! Loves to cuddle and play with toys.”
Weight: 10-15 lbs
Body Shape: Commercial
Colors: A variety of colors in both solid and broken
Personality/Temperament: Friendly, relaxed, cuddly, and social.
Defining Characteristic: Massive size and lopped ears
Believed to have been created through the crossing of an English Lop and French Butterfly (French Flemish Giant-like breed), French Lops are the largest lop-eared breed. Some of the sweetest rabbits available, they are favorite of many pet owners. Their large size makes them nearly comparable to dogs, and they require ample space to run and play.
Thanks to @lulu_and_the_lops, as well as their amazing rescue @rescue.rabbits.rock for providing pictures of their beautiful lop!
Giant Angora
Weight: 9-10.5 lbs
Body Shape: Commercial
Colors: REW is the only color recognized by the ARBA, but they are available in a variety of colors.
Personality/Temperament: Sweet, laid back rabbits.
Defining Characteristic: Large size and wool.
Giant Angoras were originally created to develop a new, larger Angora breed. Through the crossing of German Angoras and other larger breeds, this was achieved. They are popular wool producers, and also a great choice for pet owners. As with all wool rabbits, they need to be groomed regularly or sheared.
Thank you to @cedarhillfiberfarm and @mcmurray_brittany for providing pictures of their Giant Angoras!
Giant Chinchilla
Weight: 12-15 lbs
Body Shape: Commercial
Colors: Chinchilla
Personality/Temperament: Calm, playful, and social rabbits that make great house pets.
Defining Characteristic: Large size and chinchilla coloring.
After the immediate popularity of Chinchilla rabbits, breeders set out to create a larger version of this beautiful breed. They began by crossing New Zealand, American, and Chinchilla rabbits. The result was the large, friendly breed we have today. Their size and temperament makes them great house rabbits, as they need plenty of room to run and jump.
Thank you to @toasterbrutal and @jessica_the_giant_bunny for providing pictures of their Giant Chinchilla!
Harlequin
Weight: 6.5-9.5 lbs
Body Shape: Commercial
Colors: A variety of black, chocolate, and blue based harlequin or magpie patterns.
Personality/Temperament: Friendly, curious, and outgoing rabbits that love to run and explore
Defining Characteristic: Striped fur pattern.
Harlequin is an old breed known for its unique color pattern. They have a friendly, interactive temperament and make great pets. Though they are not the largest breed, they should be given plenty of room to explore. Our own Harlequin, pictured above, was quite the escape artist. He regularly managed to leap his four foot pen until we secured a op over it, and was always ready to try new things.
Thank you to @thor_and_loki_bunnies for providing pictures of their cuties!
Havana
Weight: 4.5-6.5 lbs
Body Shape: Compact
Colors: Chocolate, Blue, Black and Lilac in solid and broken varieties.
Personality/Temperament: Friendly, energetic, and gentle rabbits.
Defining Characteristic: Compact shape and dense coat.
Havana rabbits were created in the Netherlands somewhat accidentally. When some mixed breed rabbits produced chocolate colored kits, breeders fell in love with the unique coloring. They crossed those kits with Himalayan rabbits, and eventually produced the breed we know today. These stocky rabbits are primarily used for show or kept as pets. They are outgoing and playful, but lack the frenetic nervousness of many other energetic breeds.
Thank you to @missbunanddora for providing pictures of their beautiful Havana!
Himalayan
Weight: 2.5-5 lbs
Body Shape: Cylindrical
Color: Black, Blue, Chocolate, and Lilac Pointed White
Personality/Temperament: Calm, relaxed, and docile.
Defining Characteristic: Cylindrical shape and pointed coloring.
One of the oldest rabbit breeds, Himalayan’s origins are unknown. Some believe they were first bred in the Himalayas as their name suggests, but there is little evidence to support this theory. One of their most unique characteristics, they have “cylindrical” shaped bodies that do not widen or taper when viewed overhead. They are fairly small, relaxed rabbits that make great pets.
Thank you to @silverspurrabbitry and Savage Sister’s Rabbitry for providing pictures!
Holland Lop
“He thinks he’s a puppy! He’s so social and gregarious and is at his happiest when we have a crowd of people over - binkies galore. Seeks out humans whenever possible and loves to be snuggled and played with and just generally to be the center of attention. Zero personal boundaries.”
Weight: 3-4 lbs
Body Shape: Compact
Colors: A variety in both solid and broken colors.
Personality/Temperament: Curious, social, and spunky.
Defining Characteristic: Small size and lopped ears.
Holland lops were developed through the crossing of a Netherland Dwarf, French Lop, and English Lop. As you may be able to guess, we are partial to this sweet little breed. They are somewhat relaxed, but have explosive personalities and love to explore. Despite their small size, they need plenty of room to run and (in their opinion) endless toys to destroy.
Jersey Wooly
Weight: 2.5-3.5 lbs
Body Shape: Compact
Colors: A variety of colors in both solid and broken.
Personality/Temperament: Gentle, docile, and relaxed.
Defining Characteristic: Tiny size and wool.
Jersey Woolies were first bred by crossing French Angoras and Netherland Dwarfs. This eventually resulted in small, Netherland Dwarf sized rabbits with soft wool. They are one of the most popular show rabbits, but their calm temperament makes them greats as pets. They are known for being affectionate and far more relaxed than most dwarf rabbits.
Thank you to @zephyrrabbitry and @wildmeadowsrabbitry for providing pictures of their Jersey Woolies!
Lilac
Weight: 5.5-8 lbs
Body Shape: Commercial
Colors: Lilac
Personality/Temperament: Friendly, relaxed, and calm.
Defining Characteristic: Rich lilac color.
Before the wide variety of rabbit colors we see today had been developed, lilac colored litters were created by two main breeders across the world. One litter was bred using a Beveren and a Havana, and the other a Blue Imperial and a Havana. Rabbits from these litters were then crossed, creating the Lilac breed that was soon recognized by the ARBA. They are fairly rare, and listed on the ARBA Watch List.
Thank you to Gwen Brunelle for providing pictured of her Lilac rabbits!
Lionhead
Weight: 2-3.5 lbs
Body Shape: Compact
Colors: A variety of colors in both broken
Personality/Temperament: Energetic, social, and friendly.
Defining Characteristic: Small Size and lion-like mane.
Lionheads are thought to have originated in Belgium, when Swiss Fox rabbits were bred Netherland Dwarfs. This created their signature 'mane’ that distinguishes them from other wool breeds. They make wonderful pets and love to explore. Though they are small in size, they need plenty of room to run around and toys to destroy.
Thank you to @livsrabbits and @rduo_bundits for providing pictures!
Mini Lop
Weight: 4.5-6 lbs
Body Shape: Compact
Colors: A variety of colors in both broken and solid
Personality/Temperament: Friendly, cuddly, and affectionate.
Defining Characteristic: Teddy bear like personality and small size.
Mini Lops originated in Germany when German Lops were bred to Chinchilla rabbits. Despite their name, they are not the smallest lop breed. They weigh around 5lbs and are smaller than French and English Lops but larger than Holland Lops. They are some of the friendliest rabbits, with personalities similar to French Lops. Because of this, Mini Lops are a great choice for first time owners or families.
Thank you to @timmy.the.bun for providing pictures!
Mini Rex
“Wilbur my Rex much prefers cozy, safe spaces- being smaller he is more timid, but is more comfortable being picked up and stroked. They both love food and run in from the garden for their meal. Wilburs fur is so soft as he is a velveteen rabbit.” -@hector_and_wilbur
Weight: 3-4.5 lbs
Body Shape: Compact
Colors: A variety in both broken and solid colors
Personality/Temperament: Social, interactive, and relaxed.
Defining Characteristic: Short, dense fur that lacks the long guard hairs of most breeds.
First developed in Texas, Mini Rex were created due to the demand for small rex furred rabbits. The rex gene removes and shortens guard hair, creating rabbits with short, soft coats. This unique characteristic coupled with their friendly personalities makes them well liked as pets. They are low maintenance compared to wool and other breeds, and their small size makes them easy to care for.
Thank you to @clovertherexrabbit and @my_jackmonty for providing pictures! Check out Jack and Monty’s Facebook page here!
Mini Satin
Weight: 3-4.5 lbs
Body Shape: Compact
Colors: A variety of solid and broken colors
Personality/Temperament: Playful, gentle and relaxed
Defining Characteristic: Shiny, soft, satin fur
A much smaller version of the Satin breed, Mini Satins have a similar story to Mini Rex. When the unique coat caused by the Satin gene was popularized, rabbit owners began wanting a smaller version of the breed. This was first achieved in red and REW Mini Satins, but the breed now comes in many different colors. They are some of the softest rabbit breeds available, and nearly shine in sunlight.
Thank you to @bebesthebunny, @hoppydaysrabbitry and @benitobun for providing pictures!
Netherland Dwarf
“Super interactive and highly intelligent rabbits. Perfect Companion.”
Weight: 1.5-2.5 lbs
Body Shape: Compact
Colors: A variety in both broken and solid
Personality/Temperament: Spunky, playful rabbits that can be a bit skittish if not used to human interaction.
Defining Characteristic: Tiny size, making them one of the smallest breeds
Over the course of nearly thirty years, Netherland dwarfs were created in the Netherlands. Interestingly, the breeds used in the process were Polish Rabbits and tiny wild rabbits. These adorable rabbits quickly became one of the most popular breeds in several countries. Despite their small size, they often have huge personalities with tons of spunk and attitude.
Thank you to @eevee_the_rabbitt for providing pictures!
New Zealand
Weight: 9-12 lbs
Body Shape: Commercial
Colors: Black, Red, and REW in broken and solid
Personality/Temperament: Easy going, relaxed, and calm.
Defining Characteristic: Laid back personality.
Though its name suggests otherwise, the New Zealand breed was created in California. It was the first breed that originated in America. As more colors were discovered, they branched into multiple breeds, including ‘New Zealand Whites’ and ‘New Zealand Reds’. These different strains were eventually recognized as the single breed we know today.
Thank you to @nutbun_trio and @missbunanddora for providing pictures!
Palomino
Weight: 8-11 lbs
Body Shape: Commercial
Colors: Lynx or Golden
Personality/Temperament: Curious, laid back, and social
Defining Characteristic: Beautiful creamy coloring
Originally developed in Washington, Palominos went through several name changes before being recognized by the ARBA. They were first known as Tawnies, then Washingtonians. Finally, sparked by a submission in a coffee can suggestion box, they were named Palomino rabbits. Though not the most widespread breed, they are hardy, social, and make great house-pets.
Thank you to @hunzibunzi, @cupidandmaizey, and @myloaffam for providing pictures!
Polish
Weight: 2.5-3.5 lbs
Body Shape: Compact
Colors: Black, Blue, Chocolate, BEW, and REW in solid and broken.
Personality/Temperament: Calm, curious, and social.
Defining Characteristic: Small size and relaxed temperament.
Polish rabbits originated in England, likely bred from silver, wild, and dutch rabbits. After being imported to the US, breeders worked to create more compact rabbits that differed from the commercial body type of many breeds. This resulted in a drastically different version of the British Polish rabbits, that we now know as Britannia Petites. Polish rabbits are usually calm and social compared to other dwarf breeds, and are great for first time owners that like the look of dwarf rabbits.
Thank you to @nutbun_trio and @livsrabbits for providing pictures!
Rex
“My Rex much prefers cosy, safe spaces- being smaller he is more timid, but is more comfortable being picked up and stroked. They both love food and run in from the garden for their meal.”
-@hector_and_wilbur
Weight: 7.5-10.5 lbs
Body Shape: Commercial
Colors: A variety of colors in both broken and solid
Personality/Temperament: Calm, docile, and social.
Defining Characteristic: Soft, plushy fur.
Rex rabbits were bred from wild rabbits with a strange fur gene. They were the first domestic breed to exhibit the rex gene, followed by the Mini Rex. Because of this, they have a short, plushy coat with few guard hairs. This gives them a unique, stuffed animal like look that their owners love. Like many breeds of their size, they are relaxed, interactive pets.
Thank you to @mlabuns for providing pictures!
Rhinelander
Weight: 6.5-10 lbs
Body Shape: Full arch
Colors: Black/orange tri-color, Blue/fawn tri-color
Personality/Temperament: Energetic, outgoing, and social.
Defining Characteristic: Tri-color pattern and energetic personality.
Originally created in Germany, Rhinelander rabbits were bred using Harlequin and English Butterfly Rabbits. The two breeds’ markings combined to create the spotted tri-color pattern present in these unique bunnies. They are full-arch rabbits, and need plenty of room to stretch their legs. Owners describe them as outgoing, curious, and energetic. They are a great choice for owners who are willing to put some extra effort into their rabbits housing and exercise time.

Satin
Weight: 8.5-11 lbs
Body Shape: Commercial
Colors: A variety of colors in both broken and solid
Personality/Temperament: Friendly, social, and docile.
Defining Characteristic: Sleek, shiny coats
Satin rabbits were unintentionally created by a Havana breeder when the undiscovered fur gene began to show up in his line. They began to gain recognition as Satin Havanas, but were eventually accepted as simply Satins by the ARBA. Their beautiful coats are fine and soft with tiny air bubbles in each hair that give it its shiny look. Despite the uniqueness of their coats, they do not require any grooming beyond the normal requirements for rabbits.

Satin Angora
Weight: 6.5-9.5 lbs
Body Shape: Commercial
Colors: A variety of solid colors
Personality/Temperament: Playful, social, and curious.
Defining Characteristic: Long, shiny Angora fur.
Satin Angoras are the product of Angora and Satin rabbits. The satin gene lessens the density of the wool, but adds the translucent sheen characteristic of satirized rabbits. They have a similar appearance to French Angoras, with short fur on their head and ears. As pets, they are curious and interactive, and should be provided with plenty of new toys and places to explore.

Silver Fox
Weight: 9-12 lbs
Body Shape: Commercial
Color: Black is the only ARBA accepted color, but Blue, Chocolate, and Lilac are also available.
Personality/Temperament: Friendly, gentle, and attention seeking.
Defining Characteristic: Their dense, long coat that is said to ‘stand up’ rather than lay flat like most breeds.
Silver fox was the second breed created in the US, and considered a multi-use rabbit. Despite this, they are listed by the ARBA as critically endangered. Tan
Weight: 4-6 lbs
Body Shape: Full-arch
Colors: Black, blue, chocolate, and lilac
Personality/Temperament: Active, energetic, and friendly
Defining Characteristic: Arched body and tan markings
Tan rabbits were created through the breeding of domestic rabbits (likely Dutch) and wild rabbits. English breeders worked to develop the breed further, and eventually they made their way to the States. They were popular show rabbits, but pet owners looking for a smaller full arch rabbit loved them as well. Tans are extremely active bunnies, and their owners must be willing to provide them with plenty of room to stretch their legs.

Thrianta

Body Shape: Compact
Colors: Red-Orange
Personality/Temperament: Sweet, curious, and relaxed.
Defining Characteristic: Rich, red-orange coat.
Thriantas originated in the Netherlands, and were created in honor of the House of Orange-Nassau. During World War II their population dwindled till they were nearly extinct. Fortunately, the breed survived, and they are no longer endangered. They then resurged as popular show rabbits in the US, as breeders attempted to retain the original compact stature of the breed. They are great as pets, and have a curious and laid back demeanor.
